QUALITATIVE RESEARCH CRITIQUE II 1 Qualitative Research Critique II Vanda McCray Liberty University Qualitative Research Critique II 2 The authors of this article method of data collection was based on a five-focus group and three individual interviews on the clients that participated in the MBSR training. They analyzed and constantly compared methods to develop a grounded theory (Schellenkens Jansen, 2015, pg. 1813). If the participant participated with their partners in MBSR, they were invited for an individual interview after completion of their training (Schellenkens Jansen, 2015, pg. 1814). Qualitative Research Critique II 3 The data were analyzed with the constant comparative method to develop a grounded theory. The two authors, M. Schellenkens E. Jansen, coded their transcripts individually. After they completed the three focus groups, they then compared their codes and discussed them until a consensus was reached. They continued with several more focus groups before coming to conclusion of grouping all codes together. This is where their hypotheses data was formed. The results from this study formed three themes which included anticipatory fear for suffering of others, feeling unconnected or connected, and learning from others. What was discovered was that the participants went through a stage where they feared facing other clients dealing with the same disease before the study began. Protests have long been an essential part of American life, employed to to draw attention to critical issues,events, and injustices. Ranging from peaceful marches to powerful acts of civil disobedience, not only in the United States but in Central American countries such as Nicaragua. This being said, civil protests and peaceful demonstrations were not necessarily more successful in exuding change than pieces of legislation but moreso acted as a catalyst for social change, leading towards legislation that would positively impact those who protested. For many, it is hard to know what to do about a world beset by struggles of cultural nationalism and staggering divides in the wealth and poverty of nations. Struggles of such are direct consequences of British colonial rule, after all, Britain was the largest of a series of European empires to conquer and divide a great portion of the world from a bird’s eye view. Thus, the driving force of postcolonial literature is in fact the legacy with which colonialism left behind; it is often concerned with the revision of history, the reclamation of places, and the assertion of one’s cultural identity and integrity. Now, postcolonial literature and criticism began in the nineteen-nineties and continues to preside in the present day; but what is†¦show more content†¦According to Edward Said, a great deal of the Hammoud 2 resistance to imperialism â€Å"was conducted in the name of nationalism† (â€Å"Yeats and Decolonization†, 74). What is personality? This is the question that we have been posing this whole semester. The textbook states personality psychology is, â€Å"the scientific study of what makes us who we are† (Miserandio, 2012, p.3). Therefore, if that is the case then personality is what makes us who who we are. How we find our own personality takes a lot of work and a lot of soul searching. I know for myself, I cannot judge my personality only from the Five Factor Model (FFM). Yes, the FFM is a good predicament of our personality, but it does not further explain why we get such scores. What I mean by this, is that we have to look at religion, culture, gender, nature vs. nurture, our self-concept, our locus of control, and how we become motivated. Even this list, is very small in comparison to how we should evaluate and discover our own personality. Personality is a very complex concept, and this is why it is very hard to accurately depict a person’s personality with just a few things. To begin, I would like to begin with the FFM and the results I obtained doing a test called â€Å"The Big Five Project Personality Test†. After I took the test, my results were as followed: openness 12, conscientiousness 58, extraversion 27, agreeableness 27, and neuroticism 80 (Potter, 2000).Openness refers to how original and open minded we are in things such as fantasy, values, actions, feelings, and aesthesis (Miserandio, 2012, p.36).
